THE CLIENT EDIT
Transitioning into Spring with a Lookbook Mini
THE BRIEF
My client was looking for a couple of item recommendations to transition her wardrobe from winter to spring. She was hoping to move away from black towards a lighter more ‘summer ready’ palette. As a psychologist, my client sits a lot for work (and walks during her lunch hour) so she needs outfits to be comfortable yet approachable - nothing too formal or stuffy - she like her clients to feel at ease in her presence.
HER STYLE
My clients style is a great mix of minimalist, androgynous and relaxed - which fits perfectly into her lifestyle and work environment. Looking through her wardrobe I could see that she is a fan of natural materials and loves good quality high-end high street pieces - so I started my search there. Also one thing to note is that my client is based in the US, so I needed to search retailers that work well for her in her part of the world.
THE RECOMMENDATIONS
Whilst a Lookbook Mini doesn’t technically include new piece recommendations, my client stipulated she was looking for some lighter pieces and wanted to distance herself from black, so I wanted to achieve that for her.
After scrolling through her wardrobe I identified a gap - she needed a blazer. Not some corporate stuffy blazer, I wanted something for her that felt a little more casual but still had an element of sharp lines and tailoring that her wardrobe craved. I settled on this stretch linen blazer from J Crew. The colour is perfection and works on most skin tones.
I also noticed on my scroll that my client didn’t have any lighter coloured accessories (everything was black) so enter stage left my second recommendation, this stunning blue suede bag, again from J Crew.
THE LOOKS
ON THE LEFT:
Lets put these two recommendations together with her existing pieces. As you can see on the left I paired the blazer with a linen stripe shirt that my client already had in her wardrobe, layered in a long necklace to break up the lines and suggested to my client to tuck the shirt entirely in to create a clean line at the waist. I then paired those pieces with her barrel leg jeans, comfortable sneakers and the suede tote recommendation to add texture.
ON THE RIGHT:
This look was about balance - Two more formal/tailored pieces (the trousers & the shoe) added into a slightly more casual mix of the t-shirt and undone linen blazer. The fun earring and suede tote that add in the another layer of texture to the linen/wool mix of the blazer & trousers.
THE DETAIL:
Texture once again played a big role in these look. Both of my recommendations add tactile fabrics into the mix helping my client feel at ease, comfortable and approachable.
ON THE LEFT:
Time to mix it up with a little pattern with these great checked cotton pants. The whole idea of this look is that is takes the concept of a traditional trouser suit and gives it a more relaxed spin.
ON THE RIGHT:
The bonus look (a Lookbook mini is usually 3 looks but I always include an extra if I have time). This lookwas all about adding a splash of colour into the mix. My clients exiting pieces are very tonal so I wanted to make use of this pop of bright red and use it as an accessory for her. Sweaters are a great way to add colour to the neck and the idea here is to throw it over her shoulders and tie at the neck. That way the rest of the look can stay neutral but this on pop adds in the personality
THE DETAIL:
Again (and pretty much as always) when styling clients with minimal or classic styles, the way to add interest is through texture.
Overall some really nice, minimal looks for my clients workwear wardobe that stay well away from black.
